Empowering Communities Through Research-Driven Solutions
North South Initiative Research Society’s (NSIRS) research model is primarily Action Research-oriented, ensuring that those who participate in or are impacted by our studies are not treated as mere subjects, but as active partners in co-creating evidence-based, ethical, and rights-respecting solutions. Through this, NSIRS aims to bridge gaps in data-driven policy advocacy, community empowerment, and sustainable social justice.
Innovative Research
Our approach bridges the gap between data and impactful social justice initiatives.
Community Engagement
We prioritize inclusive and participatory methods to empower those we serve.

About North South Initiative Research Society
North South Initiative Research Society (NSIRS) is a sister organisation to North South Initiative (NSI), established to focus on research-based interventions that directly improve the lives of marginalized and disenfranchised communities in Malaysia and the Global South.
While NSIRS supports research across multiple human rights and social justice issues, one of our primary thematic areas includes labour rights and migrant worker protection. We conduct research projects, needs assessments, and collaborative studies on issues such as forced labour, modern slavery, gig economy regulation, refugee protection, financial inclusion, and social protection policies.
Our work feeds directly into actionable initiatives by NSI and allied organisations, ensuring that research outcomes are translated into tangible, impactful programs and policy advocacy.
